The Sin of Mediocrity

It’s absolutely true, in life we settle.

Seth Godin mentioned it on his blog “We settle for something not quite right, or an outfit that isn’t our best look, or a job that doesn’t quite maximize our talents. We settle for relationships that don’t give us joy, or a website that’s, “good enough.” I don’t know about you but the last thing I would want is to live a life of mediocrity. As children most of us are encouraged to be amazing, to strive for our dreams and to do what’s in our hearts.  I remember listening to the stories about Superman and Wonder Woman, watching Care Bears and reading my ultimate favourite kid’s book Jillian Jiggs about good friends, good intentions and an unstoppable stream of creativity: the infectiously upbeat tale of disarray, distraction and blissful disobedience that makes us glad we choose adventure.

What is it about these tales that motivates us? It is the fact that these characters chose to be different. Following the herd is a sure way to mediocrity. You need to be different if you want to be above average. And in order to be different you have to have a dream, you have to think BIG. Without a dream/passion it could cause you to slide into mediocrity on autopilot.

Are you doing what you want or what you should? Are you trying to meet other people’s expectations? Are you choosing what’s safe rather than what is right?

In work, in love, even in your wardrobe – dare to be different, raise the bar. Instead of having 10 dresses in your closet that you like, why not have 5 that you love! That makes you feel amazing, that you radiate with confidence when you’re in them. Avoid mediocrity like you would the plague. Because everything is a choice. Ultimately the choice you make distinguishes Wonder Woman from Paris Hilton.

Maybe every Tom, Dick and Harry goes to Holt Renfrew to be outfitted in the best attire. Does that mean you should do the same? No. Figure out what’s at your core, what your represent, what kind of Superhero you are and play accordingly. Maybe you got your pants from Holt Renfrew but you got your jewelry at the One-of-a-Kind Show from a local artisan, your shoes from a vintage shop and you made your top from a pile of others. Is that radically different or what? Pave your own path, one that is different, bold and unique.

Thought: Brock supports the Hollywood Burglar Bunch, they are my heros!

While we all know that burglary is wrong, these kids did the right thing robbing these Hollywood celebs. You probably know about the reports of string of celebrities being robbed by these kids pictured above. These kids target the celebrities that are all over the media, usually the most hated celebs that got hit with burglary like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, etc.

You think these celebrities would have really tight security systems that would make it difficult for burlgars to break in? I’m sure they have a high tech security system at their homes, but they must of found their way into the homes without making the alarms go off.

I think there is a better reason that these kids robbed their homes. It’s not because they wanted their valuables and their fame. I think it’s because these kids hate these celebs just as much as we all do. So they made their lives a living hell by going to their homes, taking everything they can. These kids did a good job and wish they didn’t get caught so they can keep going.

Fighting back at fame!

Michael Jackson movie Premiere " This is It"

“This is It” is documentary depicting the late pop icon Michael Jackson’s rehearsal for his would-be London concert performances premiered Tuesday night in downtown Los Angeles.

A red-carpet premiere ceremony was held before the screening. Celebrities donning smart costumes filed into Nokia Theater, the premiere live music and concert destination in the heart of Los Angeles, along a red carpet.

People from home and abroad, many of them holding high the late pop singer’s posters, waited impatiently for their turns to go inside.

A number of fans, dressing like Michael Jackson’s  hat, suit,T-shirts and a pair of silver gloves, posed in front of a big screen showing videos of his performances.

The atmosphere was totally different from then the Memorial service. Everybody seemed high-spirited and so eager to watch the 112-minute feature-length film as if they were going to a live pop concert.

Tickets authorities said a total of 6,000 tickets had already been sold out across the United States. The film will be shown from Wednesday in 75 countries and regions for a limited two-week run.

Will Smith caught on camera impersonating Michael Jackson.  He is well dressed in classic cardigan and relaxed boot cut jeans.

Cordin Bleu from High School Musical, all grown up. Cordin wearing a shiny suit that plays off the metallic trend that went strong in womens wear  in the Spring 2009 season.

Brenda Song from TV show ” Suite Life of Zack and Cody” is wearing sequinced style jacket, tiger oversized T shirt, leggins and sexy boots.

Paula Abdul from American Idol wearing an electric empire dress with a slit in the front, peach stiletto. Remember Paula Abdul was the Jacksons dance choreographer.

Jennifer Lopez arrives looking  sexy with an edge.

Jennifer Love Hewitt wearing a Michael Jackson T-shirt and very hot boots! Let’s take a closer look,

Paris Hilton black dress with gold safety pins that exposed much Paris Hilton admirable figure was an iconic frock.

Vivica Fox looks flirty and fabulous wearing this black asymmetrical one shoulder strap with silver coloring on the side.

It seems most celebs were wearing black.  Daisy Fuentes wearing harem skirt with blouse.  The fringe styled boots didn’t match the outfit and the skull scarf, oh no! Maybe the skulls represent Michael Jackson video “Thriller”.

Roselyn Sanchez arrives wearing all black dress, black clutch bag and sexy stiletto boots.  Love this but too much black for the day, add some color.

Berry Gordy arrives, what’s up with that tie, too much going on.

Courtney Mazza and Mario Lopez at “This is It” Premiere.  Courtney’s dress is in a brilliant teal dress, with a thick high black belt and black boots. Mario sexy cool look black shirt, jacket, jeans and sneakers were pulled together fashionably.

Katy Perry wearing a long see through dress ( similar to a flamenco dancer) Adam Lambert looks great with black jacket, leather skinny tie and fitted pants.

Kenny Ortega producer of the movie.

Born Rich but forever poor in Character

The title describes Paris Hilton perfectly. Born rich but has the personality of a cardboard box. She tried to do something with her fame but the results are not good. Her movie career never took off, neither did her fashion designing career. She currently has no job and hopes for a baby have never materialized. Paris Hilton is a spoiled rich cheap media person with no real role in life.  She has a bitter hatred for her ex best friends and we as the public are left wondering  why the friendships fell apart.  The truth about Paris is she has no personality. What we have seen of her in the past, pets draped over her arm and wearing the latest converse fashions is about as much as you are ever going to get. Exterior polish form having a rich Daddy but scratch the surface and you have a selfish narrow minded person who is focused on herself only. She is not the glitz she used to be, she is more toned down and older now but not wizer.  Paris Hilton is not one of my favorite celebrities.

Simplesmente SHOW!

The curious case of Dean Winchester. kkkkkk chorey!

Agora, sim, fui!

Smack Talking of the Day: $ Cash Battle $

Facts of the BFG: Let's Do This

In 1985 or there close within, a young rapper named LL Cool J burst onto the scene with his fresh, innovative, and ultimately brash single, “Rock the Bells” under the label Def Jam. Who could possibly forget such classic lines as, “You bring the woodpecker, I will bring the wood”? Our favorite line from the single, however, would be that of, “I will battle anybody, I don’t care you tell…” And with such a boast, LL reigned supreme for years with Earl, the DJ whose hand was like a shark’s fin on the wheels of steel.

There has been enough smack talking from the likes of many platinum heavyweights to last a lifetime, and frankly, Universal Artists, International and Joe Stern-McGovern, global agent and President of the company, have decided it’s time to call all bluffs, to stop those who would deal from the bottom of the deck, to prove their own worth, and to reign supreme, just as their ancestor, LL Cool J, did in the mid-80s. With an eye towards cornering the rap market by somewhere around 2014, Universal Artists, International has announced to the world, “You think you can touch this, you talkin’ to me, well then let’s cash battle, sucker DJs”*.

Joe Stern-McGovern: A Challenge for Charity

Beginning January 2010, Universal Artists, International’s heavyweights, Black Flock Gang aka BFG from the self-titled smash CD, BFG, and their oft featured artists, Christian Levi and Ms. Kesha Lee, will set out on the road to battle all comers to prove their dominance in the highly competitive world market. Sucker DJs globally, be prepared to be shut down, to have your mama thoroughly disrespected, to bow your heads in shame, and to wipe those saline tears of miserable failure away as you have your proverbial asses handed to you Dirty South Style courtesy of the BFG.

DO: Ain't No Other

Is this a claim on behalf of the notorious, infamous, and supreme BFG that the South trumps east, west, and midwest? Certainly not. Why might one ask? Simply said, with the versatility of the BFG, they consider themselves masters of every variation, bringing due respect and paying homage to each in their own way. Not only will the Black Flock Gang break out in verse to make the hardest of the Eastern seaboard suffer whiplash, they will rock the richter scale until California falls off and into the ocean as the next largest island of the world. If they fail to show restraint, California might entirely become the next Atlantis.

Fans Awaiting the BFG Concert

Sucker DJs of every realm, bow down in reverence as the kings who came to save the game pass before your mortal eyes. You name the place, you name the date, you name the style, and watch yourselves stepped on like a petulant red ants on a picnic blanket. The BFG will demand nothing short of your full measure of respect. Show them a line and they will cross it in a minute. If you can see them, it’s too late to run.

The Honorable Hood Shuttlesworth

“Disciples of soul, godfathers of rap, our rhythm is down as your mama is whack,” claims Japan’s lead envoy for Universal Artists, International. Yes, the BFG have already made their way overseas and leveled the best the Japanese market has to offer in exhibition shows against some of the greatest styles in the manner of Ludacris, Lil’ Jon, Slim Thug, Ice Cube, and even the tattoed poet himself, Lil’ Wayne.

No one can bring the energy of the BFG, no one can match their verbal skills and delivery. The BFG will make a grown man cry to any of the numerous beats by Tiptonville, Tennessee’s own A-Dub, conqueror of crunk and his cohort, 731 joker of Lake County and pop’s answer to the age old question of the chicken and the egg, Lil’ J.

A-Dub & Lil' J: I Been On

Is this challenge by Joe Stern-McGovern of Universal Artists, International belligerent? Not at all, it simply underscores the supremacy and dominance of the BFG for any of the unenlightened, ill spoken, disrespectful, or simply “act a fool” MC. Like Hammer said in his time, “Can’t touch this,” and from the likes of Public Enemy, “Don’t believe the hype,” and Vanilla Ice…well, let’s not even go there…

In words of caution from those under the Shaka Productions camp in Birmingham, Alabama, “Man up, fool, check your D, because you’re ’bout to feel the fury of the BFG, B!”

In a quote from Joe Stern-McGovern, he summarizes his own take on the legends come to be publicly, collectively, and individually as the BFG,

“You cannot hold down the human spirit any easier than you can surpress the intellect. Give it some time, and it’s certain to rise to the surface and beyond your wildest dreamsn and expectations”.

When asked about the BFG and their lyrics, methods, and take on life, the company’s President, Joe Stern-McGovern, gave the following response,

“When I was a youth myself, we realized we were doing many sectors and slices of society a disservice, socially and politically speaking. These children were fed on the lies, corruption, and propaganda of forces supposedly larger than themselves, but they’ve risen, risen from the plumes with a message which won’t be swept beneath the carpet.”

Joe Stern-McGovern: President of Universal Artists, International

Joe Stern-McGovern continued to state,

“Their lyrics are a social commentary, a take on their lives in a society which has tried to mold them into what they wanted them to be, pawns and worker ants to the queen, but they have a message to send with their own take on the turn fate has handed them.

If the world, let alone any invidual has taken up issue with the BFG? In a quote from Joe Stern-McGovern,

“Society has made their bed, now they can lie in it. If the powers that be cannot deal with the indignance of the disenfranchised who refuse to be categorized or smothered by sweeping generalizations, let them do better next time, and try harder with future generations”.

Lo of the BFG: The Usual Suspect

In a quote from Joe Stern-McGovern,

“The dye is cast with this lot, and now society will face their full fury, as well as their sometimes poetically beautiful take on the human condition.”

In one word from one journalist, “Wow!”

The black flock gang has arrived, and will continue to reign supreme as long as they care to carry their message, and once having done so in a manner of haughty arrogance coupled with humility, the saviors of the hustle many call rap will pass on the torch to their own sons and daughters for millions to thrill to in future battles.

What do you need to do to be a celebrity?

Apparently nothing.

Paris Hilton will appear on the TV show Supernatural (CW) this week, as a what to increase the ratings. What??? Her only acting experience is from that famous sex tape, where she was only OK. Obviously I’m not counting House of Wax, as she really didn’t act there. Or that Burger ad, where she was wearing a swimsuit while eating the product. Hey, there’s the connection between the Carl’s Jr. ad and the sex tape!

So my question is how on Earth she became a global mega brand? By just having her dad’s last name?

Did you hear her Fallen Idol song?

She doesn’t sing, act or dance. Yet Paris has tried all of them. She even has a perfume and a clothing line named after her. OK, OK, I’ll give her that she’s pretty. But not Megan Fox-pretty. If that was the only criteria, I’d say that she’s a 6 out of 10.  But clearly there are many other people that think otherwise, since she’s being very successful as an actress to the point of guest starring in one of the most successful TV shows geared to tweens and twentysomethings. Nowadays, nothing goes to market or to air without passing for a series of focus groups with viewers/consumers.

Maybe those guys are the ones to blame (or to thank) for this inexplicable success. Like the New Coke, when asked, people said that it tasted very good. But when it came down to buying that was a different story. Maybe that’s why Hilton’s movies are not that successful. And about the perfume, I don’t have a clue if it’s selling or not.

Maybe people want to confirm she has no talent, and that’s why they’ll watch.

So, my conclusion is that, as long as people don’t have to pay for her appearances on TV, we’ll always have Paris.

Check out the five things people would like for her to do on Supernatural. Now, go look for that sex video. It’s been a while since you saw it last. No, I’m not posting a link to it. Sorry.

Whitney Doesn't Want to be Like Paris Hilton

Whitney Port is making it known that she doesn’t want to be known as a talentless, lucky, privileged, entitled, jack of all trades mast of none.  Or as the question put it to her, she doesn’t want to be like Paris Hilton.

“I really respect her – she’s super hard-working and she’s made a name for herself but I want to be known as a clothing designer.”

Whitney has always had a good head on her shoulders.  She’s well aware that reality TV fame is fleeting.  “I know the reality TV career is not going to last forever and when it’s over I want to be taken seriously. Partying is just not me.”

But now, a large part of Whitney’s life is depicted on MTV reality shows.  Whitney discussed how it was much easier on theHills working with Lauren Conrad than working with bullheaded Olivia Palermo on theCity.

“It was so different with Lauren. We always had each other’s back. There was definitely a sense of loyalty. With Olivia there’s more competition. I had to constantly watch my back. It wasn’t easy that’s for sure.”

In the dating department, although Whitney and Jay have long sense broken up, he will make a small appearance in the current season of the show.  “You’ll see him for a second but it’s nothing really romantic. It’s just for closure”.

And in true Whitney fashion, she’s very humble about her celebrity and fashion icon status.  “It’s very cool [to be seen as a fashion icon]. I don’t really consider myself that but it’s very flattering because I work really hard at it. I look at fashion as a true art form”.

But 14% of you say she’s your fashion icon.

Las Vegas Billionaires Cry in their Dom Pérignon

The annual Forbes 400 list of the richest Americans for 2009 was released this week.  With deep sadness and regret Las Vegas Backstage Access reports that most Las Vegas gaming luminaries have taken multibillion-dollar net worth shellackings.

Most blamed their financial woes largely on the stock market’s collapse in 2008 and early 2009.

Las Vegas Sands Corp. founder, chairman and chief executive officer Sheldon Adelson, 76, was the highest-ranking Nevada resident on the list, coming in at No. 26 with a net worth of $9 billion.

But even that is chump change in comparison to Microsoft Corp. founder Bill Gates who tops the Forbes list with a net worth of $50 billion, followed by financier Warren Buffett, who comes in at No. 2 with $40 billion.

By comparison, Adelson began 2008 as the third-richest person, but Forbes refigured its list later in the year and Adelson fell to 15th with a net worth of $15 billion. In March, when Forbes released its top billionaire list, Adelson was listed with a net worth of $3.4 billion.

Las Vegas Sands avoided filing bankruptcy nearly a year ago when Adelson invested $1 billion of his own money into the company to make a debt payment.

Kirk Kerkorian, the 92-year-old Los Angeles billionaire who owns about 43 percent of MGM Mirage, took the largest tumble of all gaming executives on the list, falling from 27th in 2008 with $11.2 billion, to 97th in 2009 with a net worth of $3 billion.

MGM Mirage’s declining stock since the end of 2007 reduced the value of Kerkorian’s holdings in the company from $11 billion down to $1.5 billion. Other Kerkorian investments in the oil and automotive industries also suffered throughout the year.

Wynn Resorts Ltd. Chairman Steve Wynn fell from 118th with $3.4 billion to 141st with $2.3 billion. “Tough year for the king of Las Vegas,” Forbes reported.

The biggest Las Vegas challenge, according to the magazine, was opening the $2.3 billion Encore last December in the middle of the recession.

Meanwhile, Wynn cashed out more than $100 million in shares of Wynn Resorts that will be used as part of his upcoming divorce settlement with his wife, Elaine.

Other Las Vegas gaming industry executives making the list included former Stratosphere owner Carl Icahn, who recently became majority shareholder of Tropicana Entertainment. Icahn was 22nd with $10.5 billion in net worth.

New York billionaire Donald Trump, who owns the Trump International Las Vegas and 30 percent of the company that controls three Atlantic City casinos, was 158th on the list with $2 billion in net worth.

Other Las Vegans include Treasure Island owner Phil Ruffin, No. 193 with $1.85 billion, and Silverton owner Ed Roski Jr., No. 236 with $1.5 billion, rounded out the list of gaming executives.

Hilton Hotels scion Barron Hilton, who earned $800 million when the company was sold to Blackstone in 2007 and $300 million from the sale of Harrah’s Entertainment in 2008, is tied with Wynn for 141st on the list with $2.3 billion.

Curiously, Las Vegas partier and socialite extraordinaire Paris Hilton, and even her pet monkey were left off the list.

The only other Nevadan listed on the Forbes 400 is Henderson resident Nancy Walton Laurie, daughter of Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton. She was listed in 118th place with $2.6 billion.

Three members of Mars family, whose family’s company owns the Las Vegas-based Ethel M Chocolate family, tied for 19th place on the list, each with $11 million in net worth.

Now, a brief moment of silence for all the Las Vegas  billionaires who have lived gold-gilded lives and lost but a smidgeon of their fortunes– and for the majority masses who can’t even count to a billion, or even write it.
